This past season I attended the Standing Ovation Dance Competition in Fort Saskatchewan. Travelling with my Martin School of Dance and Baton team is always a fun experience, so it was really exciting to compete in the division 3 encore dance challenge! The energy backstage was electric, and feeling the support from all dancers felt incredible! I also was thrilled to place top 10 in the senior division 3 soloists! This was definitely a highlight, and a great way to end off the competition!
After my dance competition came to an end, I still had so much to prepare for regarding baton competitions. Many people don’t realize that I am both a competitive dancer and baton twirler! These two sports complement each other very well, which I find makes me a stronger competitor. At the end of June, I went on to compete at the National Baton Twirling Championship in Moncton New Brunswick, followed by the World Baton Twirling Championship and Nations Cup in Turin, Italy the first week of August. Both of these competitions were extremely successful earning me several national medals and a world top 6th placement.
Now that it is the start of a new chapter, my competition season will look a little bit different. I am attending the University of Regina in the faculty of Engineering. Despite the program, I have chosen to continue following my passion for Dance and Baton. I have joined the Varsity Dance team, which allows me to continue to compete without interfering with my classes. I am also continuing my baton journey at Martin School of Dance and Baton through the Sundown Optimist Baton Group. This season I will be training to qualify for the world baton twirling championship that is being held in Paris, France. I am looking forward to building my skills and refining my technique in hopes of making the Canadian team.
